Dutch Monkey Doughnuts
3075 Ronald Reagan Blvd #502, Cumming, GA 30041; (404) 482-3650 www.dutchmonkeydoughnuts.com
Cumming is home to one of the best doughnut shops in the state. Everything is made from scratch in-store. Options include tangy buttermilk cake, fluffy doughnuts filled with seasonal jellies and tarts made with tart apples. The must-try doughnut is the namesake. The Dutch Monkey is filled with dulce de lece and fresh bananas and topped with chocolate. Be sure to go early, as they run out quickly.
380 Flat Shoals Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316; (404) 893-0088.
For late-night revelers in East Atlanta Village with a sweet tooth, this spot is a shining beacon of happiness. It does not look like much from the outside, but all of that will be forgotten once you have doughnuts in hand. Be sure to try the red velvet, which is a customer favorite. Oddly enough, another favorite is the hot wing selection. Hot wings and doughnuts. Is there anything better at 2 a.m.?
Revolution Doughnuts and Coffee
908 W College Ave, Decatur, GA 30030; (678) 927-9920, http://revolutiondoughnuts.com
If you’re ever driving down West College Avenue on a Sunday morning and are curious what the crazy-long line snaking out onto the street is for, it’s probably Revolution Doughnuts. Their offerings include both yeasty and more cake-like doughnuts in a variety of flavors. For those wanting a true taste of Georgia, try the peach slider. It’s a round donut that is cut in half and filled with fresh peaches. The yeast dough makes for an airy and light companion for the sweet Georgia peaches.
535 10th St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318; (404) 897-1801, http://sublimedoughnuts.com/
Arguably the shop that kicked off the gourmet doughnut craze in Atlanta. Sublime Donuts has been serving up sweet treats next to Georgia Tech since 2009. Chef Kamal Grant’s a-town cream is legendary. It’s a Boston cream pie in an A-shaped doughnut. If you really want something special, try the strawberry and cream, especially at the height of strawberry season when the fruit is impossibly sweet and juicy.
