Tossed Out Treasures
Roswell Road in Sandy Springs has more than a few good consignment and thrift stores where you can uncover forgotten finds at fabulous prices. But this weekend, the 300-plus members of the Sandy Springs Society promise the mother lode. Now in its 26th year, the Tossed Out Treasures event this weekend features a bonanza of items that will make a deal-hunter’s heart sing. Check out the home decor items, furniture, artworks, jewelry, crystal, sports equipment, silver and gently used designer duds. The society has strict standards for what it puts on sale, earning it the reputation of being “upscale resale.” Along with unearthing a possible treasure, you’ll be helping the planet by recycling someone else’s stuff.
Shake Your Shamrock
The Mall of Georgia invites the entire family to mark St. Patrick’s Day with an evening of fun. For the first time, the mall hosts the Shake Your Shamrock event in the village area, where leprechauns of all ages can come in their best greenery and enjoy live music from the Throwback Experience, see intricate step-dance performances from the Drake School of Irish Dance, take pictures in the photo booth, play in the bounce house or just soak up the Irish-styled fun. Those older than 21 can party with a cocktail purchased from nearby Marlow’s Tavern, Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, P.F. Chang’s or Smokey Bones.
For some of us, the coolness of big, hulking trucks never fades, whether we’re 6, 16 or 60. So if you want to get up close and personal with a few heavy-duty machines, head over to Kennesaw’s Depot Park for this year’s Touch-a-Truck event. Construction vehicles, public safety equipment, mega trucks and even a few cool cars and motorcycles will be on display. And you don’t just have to look: Feel free to flip switches, shift gears and make yourself at home in these monsters. If all that metal makes you want to chow down while you look around, vendors will be on site to sate your appetite.
