A dozen dogs will be competing to be Piedmont Park's first Dog of the Year from 11 a.m. to around 12:15 p.m. July 29.

Choose from among 12 dogs to cheer on at Piedmont Park's first Dog of the Year contest on Saturday, July 29.

While the deadline has passed for photo submissions, you now can view and vote for your favorite of the top 28 contestants of almost 80 that were submitted for the online photo contest.

The 12, receiving the most votes from the photo contest, will participate in the free competition from 11 a.m. to around 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Piedmont Park, 400 Park Drive NE, Atlanta.

There, they will sit, walk or just do something adorable in a 30-second freestyle and play among the other dogs.

The winning dog will earn the title of Piedmont Park Dog of the Year for one year, starting Aug. 1.

This champion dog will also have the bragging rights of becoming Piedmont Park's spokes-dog, which means that the pooch will serve as the mascot at all dog-related events at Piedmont Park Dog Parks.
