4 reasons to pick up cornhole this fall

There are certain things that just emit the feeling of fall.

Football season, colorful leaves and pumpkin spice may be a good start, but yard games like cornhole deserve a spot right up there, too.

As the weather cools down, here are a couple of fun facts and reasons to add cornhole to your party game lineup this fall.

No one can agree on what it's called.

What's a football season without a little friendly squabbling? Like soda, pop and Coke, cornhole is one of those games that can't quite seem to settle on one moniker. You'll hear it called bean bag toss, dummy boards, baggo or plenty of other nonsensical titles, but don't fret—it's the same simple yard game no matter what you call it.

It's tailgate friendly.

Setting up the perfect tailgate is pretty much its own sport in the South (especially during college football season), and easy-to-stow games can make the afternoon fly by. Pick playing materials that rep your favorite team and turn your pre-game into a game in and of itself.

People take it seriously.

"Why wait to tailgate?" That's the question that the Atlanta Cornhole League is asking Atlanta residents looking to play outside the regular parties and tailgates. The league allows competitors to play in seven-week stints, using popular bars in areas like Virginia Highland, East Atlanta, Alpharetta, Midtown and more as the home court for food, fun and a little friendly competition.

It's a great reason to take your beer outside.

Cornhole pairs perfectly with a beer—after all, you only need one hand to hold your beverage and one hand to play the game. Atlanta's local breweries seem to have caught on, too. Spots like Monday Night Brewing offer cold brews and green views as you enjoy a little back and forth with the beanbags.
