Crocs Comeback
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
So the folks at Crocs, makers of those perforated plastic shoes, have finally acknowledged the aesthetic shortcomings of the popular footwear.
Recent advertisements promoting new styles including flip-flops and ballet slippers use the tagline “More beauty. Less beast.” The rebirth is just in time for what seems to be a revival of the 80’s plastic shoe mania.
But this time, there are designer versions like the $155 flip-flop in translucent green by Marc Jacobs. Or the $80 jeweled ankle strap shoe by Betsey Johnson.
Would you pay $100 for plastic shoes? Is this a trend worth exploring (again!!) or will it only lead to sweaty feet?

Crocs are a comfy garden shoe, worn for brief periods of time; let’s watch for eBay deals and if you want to spend $155 for plastic shoes, go for it. Maybe you can also send $10 to the USO.

Crocs are great for my three year old son. Easy to get on and off - easy to clean. That’s it. You won’t catch me with any pair of Crocs on my feet. They are cumbersome, plastic, come in odd colors - generally meant for children, in my eyes. The only exception to this would be doctors and nurses, who are on their feet all day and need rubber soles for work. Otherwise, off with the Crocs, people!

My whole family has tried getting my husband, my daughter, and me to wear those stupid styrofoam shoes. I can’t stand to look at them. I bought a pair of cheap imitations which are fine for washing the car but not much else. My parents and siblings ay they’e soooooo comfortable, but so are my Nike athletic shoes and my Bass mules, which are much better looking.

Crocs are good for walking on the beach & in the water, in the garden, around the yard after the dog has been let out (Crocs wash very well) and at sporting events (when they bear your favorite logo) and that’s pretty much it.
But beauty and fashion are in the eye of the beholder, so to each his or her own.

Now the price is another thing. Why pay $100 for 5 cents of PCCR?

yes, crocs are indeed the ugliest shoes that can be had, but they are decidedly handy to wear when traipsing through airports… easy to slip on and off at security and supportive for tired feet slogging the concourses.

Every time I see a guy wearing them I want to shout “They’re girl’s shoes!”. It’s like clogs in the 70’s. They may make them in men’s sizes but they’re for ladies. As for Dr’s and nurses…it’s bad enough you all look like you have PJ’s on. Try and look like you are a professional and not off to a sleepover.
