Shoelanta?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
On average, Atlanta women spend $202 on a pair of shoes.
That’s almost $100 higher than the national average and more than the amount spent by women in New York and Philadelphia according to a recent survey released by Dr. Scholl’s For Her.
More interesting is the 2% of Atlanta women who say they’ve spent more than $1500 on a single pair of shoes and the 59% who confess to owning more than 11 pairs of shoes.
The one thing the survey didn’t mention is exactly where we are buying all these shoes.
So ladies, how many pairs of shoes do you have? What’s the most you’ve spent on a single pair? And where is your favorite place to buy shoes in Atlanta?

I spend the most money for a single pair of shoes on Nike Shox. I don’t spend hundreds of dollars on loafers or heels. I have spent $300 for Coach boots though.

On an average pair of shoes, this woman pays no more than $30.00.
$200 for a pair of shoes is an absolute waste of my hard earned money. That’s groceries for three weeks in my house.
One pair of shoes vs. 3 weeks of groceries??? That’s a tough one.
What a waste.

I don’t care how much 202 can feed the needy or can buy groceries, to each his/her own and if I want to spend a large sum for my shoes I can, I work for and don’t feel guilty. On average i spend at least 75 dollars and up on shoes.

Yikes! I definitely have a shoe problem, as I probably have 100 pair. But I have primarily 9 West from the outlet, and the occasional super-find from Nordstrom. I love super nice shoes, but for what I do for a living, I don’t need them and they would get destroyed. So I prefer to have lots of nice, presentable pair of shoes, rather than a few REALLY nice pair of shoes!

Two hundred dollars for a pair of women’s shoes that you wouldn’t dare wear for two seasons? I thought I lived in Atlanta, but I must be living under a rock, because I never would have thought that would be the ‘average’ price!

I own well over 30 pairs, but many are outdoor and weather-specific. The most spent is probably no more than $75 (on sale at Zappos). I don’t think the shoes I wore with my wedding gown were that much! I shop mainly online.

The twice yearly sales at Saks and NM get my adrenaline going. Love getting a $350 pair of Tods for $100. Nice shoes make an outfit complete and can last for years. Cheap shoes hurt my feet. The most spent ever is $325 for Kate Spade boots. Shoes are my vice.

I have about 25 pairs of shoes, but those range from a $2 pair of flip-flops to my $95 pair of boots.
I usually only buy shoes if they’re on a really good sale price … I will NOT do full retail prices if I can help it.
I do love my shoes, but I just can’t justify spending several hundred dollars on a single pair of shoes.

That, however does NOT mean your are a total moron for spending $200 on a pair of shoes.

American freedom implies we can spend money on whatever we choose and spend it all on one item if we choose. On the other hand, do Americans believe that the more we spend on materialism, the more value we assign to ourselves?? Someday those who spend all to express internal values mentioned above may one day wish they had invested more in their future economic security than living merely for the thrill of the moment. Money and “things” do not make one more valuable; nor does it create stability, eternal value and happiness. “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die”.

Yes i own and so do my friends own 50+ pairs of shos. But i have to say the only pair of shoes i have paid $200 or close to that are italian leather knee boots for winter. I was a manager at a high-end womens shoe store and before i come to realize i could only wear so many pair of shoes that i had purchased over the time i worked there was just neveer going to be worn even in a years time unless i had more than the average evening events to attend. alot of my ‘special time to wear” shoes would only get worn maybe once a year….which i am embarrassed to say because there are so many people out there that could put good use to some of my shoes. I just need to find them. So there goes my shoe-fetish. Whoa…I love them. I’m the type of shoe lover that would skip lunch and dinner if it came to me deciding on getting a brand new pair of nice shoes if i’m out shopping during the day or eat. Yes, I would not eat…but i would be soooo extatic about my NEW HOT PAIR OF SHOES!!! I need help!!!

Why does everyone refer to “working hard”. What is that?
We all “work for our money”. Some work more hours than others, some make more money than others, but working “hard” seems like an oxymoron.
If you worked “light” for your money would you spend it any differently?
As for shoes I think $200 is a fine price for a pair that would last 10 years and not go out of fashion.

I say it’s nobody’s buisness who spends what on anything. If someone feels the need and works who cares? There are worse things to spend money on. It sounds like “Sour Grapes” to me from people who can’t spend that much. Now as far as myself I have never spent that much on anything I wear, but I would like to cast the worry and “Frgilness” aside. I had a large family and they came first. It is so upsetting people jump on the bandwagon to critize. I say “Get a grip” and mind your own buisness.

Let me tell you something….I have the money and then some to buy just about whatever I want. But spending over $75 on a pair of shoes, that very likely next season will be cast aside, is stupid. I have always subscribed to the old adage of ” To whom much is given, much is expected”. You don’t have to be some huge philanthropist who lives in near self appointed poverty to live a guilt free life. But you are wasting an opportunity to bless and give back to others by spending so much money on so much frivolity. You can have nice things without going to such ignorant extremes. So yes…in my opinion you are suffering from Parishiltonitis if you buy things not so much for how they make you feel than how they make people think of you.

Okay, there are only certain types of shoes I go gaga over. I have a difficult time walking past a pair of boots (cowboy, mostly). I have over 20 pairs. Shoemakers Warehouse on Amsterdam Walk is my favorite hunting ground. I wear my shoes until they almost die and get them a faceleft from a great shoe repair man. I have a limit on what I will pay. I am on my feet all day, at least I feel good about what I put them in.

Earlier in my post i said i have 50+…i can say now that maybe it’s closer to about 100 pairs of shoes because i was thinking about my current spring/summer collection that is out in closet. With all the other problems and issues in the world, why would you want to spend $200 on a pair of shoes that are eventually going to wear out? You could feed a homeless person for a month with $200, and then have some left over. Wow! ladies what are we teaching our daughters!

I buy most of my shoes at Target, and when I can’t find what i”m looking for there, I go to DSW or Off Broadway Shoes. The most I’ve ever spent on shoes was $100 for Chacos, and then less than $100 for my running shoes.

I have 10 pairs with 4 pairs being Softt shoes. I recommend these to all women because of their feminine style and comfort. They are pricey so whenever I find a pair on sale, I grab them. I would spend $200 for shoes if I couldn’t find ones that worked. I never have. I buy all shoes on line now as my size is hard to find (wide foot). Now my shoes fit and I only buy ones that are comfortable. Why not? It’s important for posture and walking well and your back and more…but more expensive doesn’t always mean better for you, although it sometimes does (those prada/dolce/etc shoes are typically not so good for the feet).
Just another point of view…

$200 on a pair of shoes, if they are the right shoes, makes perfect sense. It’s cheaper to spend $200 on a good quality pair of shoes that’ll last 10 years than $60 on a cheaper quality pair that’ll be done in a year or two. Same thing with clothing. The better the quality, the longer it lasts, the cheaper the eventual cost. That’s the cardinal rule of fashion.

If there’s a grain of truth in this survey, it’s a perfect example of what stupid sheep this neck of the woods is over-populated with.

One pair of tennis shoes (Avia) - $35.00 (sale price at Kohl’s); one pair of boating flip flops ($40.00 - Savannah store 2 years ago); One pair of high heal sandals ($13.99 - Ross - for vacatation); one pair of regular flip flops ($2.99 - Old Navy). Going Barefoot - priceless, but they won’t let me do that at work.
All four pair, less than $93.00 in a two year range. $109 more into the old savings account.

Shoes… $200… to each his own. Not mad at ya if you’re spending this. Most everyone has their “waste” to how they will spend their money. Some people will buy cars they barely can afford (or the extremely wealthy buy vehicles costing more than many local government’s total operating budget), some go for the overpriced home (heard of the lake home sales for $500,000 plus only to be demolished for a $2.5 mil home), and some go for overpriced shoes.
Personally I have fell victim to cruises, but I will only go when a bargin can be found (if $750 pp can be called a bargin).
But to my wife I ask, “does it make sense for a pair of shoes to cost more than tires on the car?”. She can agree with that, so she takes the $150 shoe allowance and finds 3 priced at clearance or otherwise. So i don’t know which is worse, a $150 per of shoes, or a closet full of $30 pairs.

Well said Joanne and Jazzyone. Here’s another reason for “expensive” shoes: cheap shoes don’t fit my feet!!! The most I have spent on a pair of shoes is $300 and they were worth every penny and I don’t feel guilty one bit. To those who say “oh you could buy food for the hungry” - you must have FAT AVERAGE FEET!!!!!! I have a very narrow foot and I swear anything that doesn’t say “Made in Italy” or “Made in France” does not fit my foot. My foot is 100% European. I can try on every pair of shoes at DSW or Macy’s and not one will fit. I love shoes but I can’t just go out and buy any old pair. My favorite brands are Fornarina (fits everytime and runs $100 and up. I’ve had one pair for 3 years and have had them re-tapped 4 times. They are the most comfortable dress shoes ever!), Siegerson Morrison (my absolute fave, these start at over $240 a pair and fit like a wonderful leather glove - no blisters, no bunions, just comfort! I’m wearing a pair right now. Patent leather ballet flats. I wouldn’t trade them for a 100 pairs of cheaply made shoes. I wear them just about everyday. Not once have I gotten a blister from them), Arturo Chiang (about $90 and up), Kenneth Coles (real ones, not “reaction” or “unlisted”), Cole Haan (I have a $155 pair of flip flops - LOVE THEM!!! No back aches, no blisters, just pure joy) Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom are my favorite places to shop for shoes and they give you great service. I only own around 15-20 pairs of shoes. I gladly pay top dollar for them. I work at a law firm and I’m sorry but you can’t put a pair of $20 shoes with a $300 suit or outfit. You can tell. However, I do love a good deal. I once got a pair of $165 shoes at Bloomie’s for $15 and my first pair of $195 Fornarinas cost me only $65 so =P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have yet to buy a pair that cost more than $300 but I wouldn’t be ashamed to, especially if they fit and I would wear them everyday. I once wore Manolo Blahniks in a fashion show. The stilettos cost $795 and looked perfect with the $2,000 handpainted gown I was wearing. They felt pretty good too!

Not everyone is being as responsible as others as claiming to be. Its one thing to have a 6 figure salary and 1/3 of your mortgage paid but how responsible is it if you are a stay at home mom and your husband works and makes a good (not great) and that’s how you spend his money. I think its all relative, if you can afford to do this without causing financial strife, do. Those shoes were created for people like that. But let’s not pretend that its only the affluent buying this type of stuff, there’s a reason we live in a credit card world that is up to its eyeballs in debt.
I could go buy a $200 pair of shoes because I make decent money but that would mean my child would suffer clothing/shoe or education wise. Again, I can afford it, but is that fair?

Someone is sure blowing the averages in that poll.
I’m admittedly cheap and I don’t dress for runway walks or the club scene. The most I’ve ever paid for my shoes are the $42 for my evening sandals with rhinestones and satin, 4” heels and ankle straps. And then it was only because my daughter was tired of shopping and polled every male customer in the store to choose between the 4” of gam glitz and the 2” of more practical(and cheaper)pair.
My average shoe comes from strip mall discount shoe store, Kohls or (Heaven forbid!) Wally-World. Sandals under $12. Leather office shoes I’ll go $25 and athletic shoes (including my Top Siders) up to $30.
I have gone as high as $56 for the above-mentioned-daughter’s to-die-for board shoes (Van’s) that she’d dutifully worn for 2 school years.

I have to say the myself pesonally…I have about 150 pairs of shoes and I have even given some away and sold some at yard sales. Shoes are definitely my vice…but I do agree with some of the women when they say that we work for it then we can spend our money however we want to. I give enough of my money to the people living on welfare or in the projects so that is charity enough for me. Also, I do not spend no more that $30 on a pair of shoes and I do alot of sale/clearance shopping and I also shop alot on ebay. I also resale shoes on ebay as well to make money. I am interested in hearing from Traci in regards to investing in the shoe companies…I would be very interested in that.
In closing, I say to each his own…if you got the money to spend that much on shoes then hey…more power to you. And Coach, Jimmy Choos or Manola Blahniks are a better “designer drug” any day than Extacy!!

I suppose that those of you that think that paying 200 bux for a pair shoes is like buying a BMW “a wast of money”. I dont think so, what this average is saying is that the average person can afford to spend 200 bux for a pair of shoes.
Whats the deal with people starting off with asking why we dont donate more to needy people. I have yet to see a donation for a rich person. its funny, both people rich or needy are there because they choose to be (indirectly for children since their parents chose to be) so why should their be exceptions for needy people? but this is about $200 for shoes so i wont go into that.
when you put on a pair of high dollar shoes its not just the fact that others know they are pricy but that they feel good, they are made better and will in most cases last longer (not so for nike basketball shoes for some reason). you can apply that to everything you buy, or maybe we should support the theives and buy from e-bay :)

I don’t buy any expensive shoes, but I don’t care if someone spends $200 for a pair of shoes. That’s her money, and she can do whatever she wants to. If she doesn’t donate any money to charity, so what? That doesn’t make her a bad person. Mind your own business, really.

I cringe when people come on here and say they work hard for their money and have every right to spend it on what they want. That is so not the point. Then again, what is the point of a stupid blog topic like this? The way I see it, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who would spend that much on shoes, and those who would not. I personally would rather spend money on a great dress and go barefoot or wear flip flops than spend that much on shoes, but obviously not everyone agrees.

How many of you folks who are mocking people who buy shoes have spent $200 on food (ay, 3 nice dinners out)? Or at a bar over a couple weekends? Or, cigarettes, a gym membership you don’t use. etc? A really-really big tv? An expensive cable pacakge?
I don’t. I spend $$ on shoes, but live off $18 cable, and have an OLD tv.

I can’t imagine someone saying the things you have over a pair of shoes, that is none of your buisness. Ihis is the second time I have replied to these articles and Harold is the reason. Not only are you calling women stupid you are making yourself look like that. If you have a wife I pity her. I said IF. Probably not !!!!! I just have jones in my bones for a nice pair of shoes to highlight my pedicure. Be easy, its not liek we are out on the street beggin gfor money to go buy some jimmy choos. SHEESH another light topic turned in to the heat of the night. SHEESH Atlanta.. SO many peoepl in this city make a daily pastime out of eating out. Others spend that money on clothes,, shoes & accessories. I’m thinkin to each his own? WHY is it such a problem for others? gee whiz. And yes some people do “work hard” for the moeny. Some dont work as hard. it has nothing to do with hours & extra days all the tiem. Some jobs require a little more than the norm. Outside of the job & the ego stroking ( dont go anywhere welse with that please)to please the clients & the bosses. Some of us go to work and give more thatn we are paid for. So yea there are some peopel that work a little harder for the money. Do you think its that easy to go out & sell a house at a ow point? A car when gas is this high? A newspaper when what.. we are online reading it. So uh.. yea there are soem peopel that work extra hard for the money. SO hard for it honey! So I take my check & treat SELF right!

Here’s a news flash for any of you who are trying to guilt / goad people into giving money to the “less fortunate / poor / needy / homeless / WHATEVER” instead of buying for themselves what they want - you’re not helping your cause.
If you want to spend every nickel of your discretionary funds - or your mortgage payment/grocery money/etc for that matter -on that, then it’s your business. Nobody is going to pressure you about going out and splurging on an $1500 pair of shoes, tell you how badly you need to upgrade your house or car, or suggest you spend your next two paychecks on a wardrobe overhaul.
This is still America, people are free to do with their wages as they see fit, and it’s not anyone else’s(outside of maybe their spouse and/or children) business. Get over yourself!
When the able bodied & capable of working an honest job “needy” get off their lazy hides and obtain some real employment instead of continuing to collect welfare and food stamps (which we all pay for through taxes) or pan-handling (and averaging $15 / hour in so doing thanks to people like you who are only enabling them), maybe people will feel differently.

I can easily attest to having just over 100 pairs. I honestly think they most I have spent on a pair is a pair of Jimmy Choos that I got off Ebay for 275.00. I don’t do cheap shoes & don’t have fat feet & in fact have the smallest feet in my family. But in my line of work I am on my feet all day & I refuse to take any chances on messing up my beautiful feet (NO CORNS, NO Hammer TOES, No Bunions, No Hard Feet, no nothing-I have men that want to take off my sandals to look at my pretty feet & I don’t even KNOW them lol) or gambling with my posture by wearing cheap shoes. I do however look for bargains at Nordstroms, Bloomies, or even Macy’s on ocassion & then there’s DSW where if you look hard enough you can find true designer quality shoes at excellent prices. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. And as far as charity is concerned I am sure I am one of the few who donates just as much money to various charities as she spends on her shoes. I get my hot comfortable shoes & my Karma suffers NONE.

Ok, can we calm down and get back on topic instead of hating? I guess you didn’t read the recent column by Angela Tuck. I own maybe 10 pairs of shoes and dislike most of them. If women could find just one comfortable pair of shoes I bet they would buy fewer. I dislike shoe and purse shopping becuse there are too many choices and usually do not spend more than $35 or so for shoes. IMO shoes have become a crazy obsession among women and you can bet your next paycheck the shoe manufacturers are rejoicing all the way to the bank. A co-worker has a shoe calendar on her wall. It’s not a waste of money if a person wants the shoes and can afford them. Expensive shoes, like pricey clothes, are typically better made and last much longer (at least that’s been my experience).
As for using my hard earned money to help the needy? Puh-leeze. I support the charities that I want to support. Meanwhile Uncle Sam snatches 30-40% of my checks before the funds ever hit my account. I suspect much of that is used to ENABLE the needy through goverment assistance programs. Needy people needy to stop making excuses, put themselves through college and get a good job like I did. Can’t afford school supplies, stop having kids who need them.

People that will pay such a rediculous price for shoes are idiots with an out of control ego. Women may pay $200 for a pair of shoes that will probably last only a short time, but I can assure you that men will not do that, they buy for utility. Most good shoes are in the $65.00 range, and that is too much. I can buy a cow for that…

As for myself…I am a 6’ female who wears size 11 shoes and I sometimes have to pay more than I want to for decent footwear that are hard to come by. But I have found some really nice shoes on sale anywhere from $10 to $150. I probably average $60 on shoes. You just have to find the good sales whether it’s a low cost or high-end shoe store. I found some really cute wedge heels at Payless for $17 and I get compliments on them all the time.

I make alot of money, but would never think of paying more than $100.00 for a pair of shoes, and tend to buy Borns for about $60/pair. When I get tired of them, I give them to charity. Who did they survey? Neither I nor any of my friends are wearing $200 shoes (and many of us could afford to). I understand a person (not just women — I know men who do, too) investing hundreds of dollars in shoes that fit well, are made well, are comfortable and supportive, promote good posture, and last for years. Poorly made or ill fitting shoes can cause more bodily damage than any other garment you wear. In shoes, like in most products, you get what you pay for.
The most I have ever paid for a pair of shoes is $125. I have a few pairs in that range, and they’re excellent shoes. I can wear them all day, and the design of the shoes makes me stand straight.
I shop mostly at DSW and often on the clearance rack, so I generally pay between $5 - $50. But many of those shoes retailed for $75 to as much as $500. And I keep a pair of shoes for 3 - 10 years, depending on how often they are worn.
I’m sure there are plenty of women in Atlanta that buy expensive shoes, but I don’t believe that $202 is the average across the female population. Again, I ask, who and where did they survey?

And, yes, when I get tired of them, they go to Salvation Army—I don’t try to make a dime on them by placing them on E-bay! Hello all. My co-workers wonder all the time how many shoes I own. They bought me a shoe calendar one year. That was cool. A different shoe for every day. I own hundreds of shoes. Why, because I love to dress. I love how when you look good you feel good. I can’t say that I own any $200 shoes. I normally don’t look at the price of a show. The look attracts me and then I look at the price. I can either afford it or I can’t. I would like to say that I can make cheap look good. I also take the shoes I no longer wear to apartments and stack them beside the trash bend because they are still in the boxes they came in and in good condition. They normally don’t sit there for long.

The most I have payed is $250 on Rebeca Sanvers - full price, but I paid for them w/ money from my additional/side free lance work and totally earned them. I am single with no kids, so this is fine for me.
Mitzi’s shoe box in Va-Hi has the best shoes! Also, I don’t blow money on HDTVs, DVDs, or any cable package more significant than basic - I simply don’t have time to enjoy these things, nor do I care to.
The typical shoe in my closet retailed for $100-150, but was purchased on-sale for $40-50, with the exception of 992s and Wallabees, which don’t go on sale.
I have over 20 pairs, but am completely disgusted with clutter, so I pledge to donate a pair to goodwill everytime I buy a new pair - keeps the closet clean. Furthermore, there is nothing worse than a cheap pair of shoes - they make feet look vile. Well made shoes are sooo much more comfortable!

NEWSFLASH, the goverment already conveniently removes 40% of my income before it even hits my hot little hands (and yours too - if you work) for such things. The homeless can go out and get a job just like everyone else. But the reality is most of them are on drugs. Go spend a little time downtown around them to find out. They can all run down to a nice warm shelter funded by tax dollars and get food or can go over to Grady for some free health care. Spend the money you have left after taxes however you wish and let all the opinionated jerks keep on passing judgement - who cares. You only live once, buy what makes you happy.

I own close to 100 pairs of shoes, and see nothing wrong with dropping $600 or so on a fantastic pair of Louboutin pumps or Jimmy Choo sandals. There are certain shoes designed to be works of wearable art, and I am an avid job, a home, and no other vices (such as smoking, drinking or doing drugs) I am hardly ashamed of my shopping indulgences. Give me a $1500 pair of handmade, Gianmarco Lorenzi python boots that will last me a lifetime over a pair of poorly made $50 clunkers any day of the week.

Who has time to wear over 100 pair of shoes, much less house them. What an utter waste of money? Ladies, you only need one pair of tennis shoes, one pair, maybe two of dress shoes (black and blue), and flip flops. Oh yea, and a couple of pair of good quality boat shoes for the boat.

I spend more money on shoes than I used to because wearing cheap shoes all the time is bad for your whole body, but especially for your feet. A lot of the joint issues suffered by older people can be traced back to years of wearing bad shoes.
Still, the most I’ve ever paid was around $65, for a pair of good business shoes. I buy good shoes, but I try to get them on sale or at outlet stores. I’m not a big shoe shopper in general because I shop for fit over style, and my feet are tough to fit (wide toe, narrow heel). I probably own about 25 pairs total, including seasonal shoes (I don’t wear boots in July or sandals in January), plus several pairs of dressy shoes I wear only rarely. I usually have about a half-dozen pairs of shoes in regular use at any given time during the year.
Other than my newest pair of Nikes (my sneaker of choice), my current favorites are two pairs of flat Isotoner sandals I found at The Shoe Dept. in Northlake Mall. I bought the first pair for $30 and liked them so much I went back for another pair in another color — and those were on sale for $20! They’re great for walking, which is critical because I have a long walk from the parking garage to my office and back every day.

Joanne, people who have money can be disappointed in the choices other people with money make. Your comment is not accurate nor fair. I make a good living but would not spend that kind of money on shoes. However, if it makes YOU happy, enjoy your expensive shoes that you worked hard for. Hopefully, you will thank God for the blessings in your life that allow you to buy such treasures. I trust that you have not lost all of your compassion for those less fortunate and can see that spending that kind of money could be considered somewhat excessive. Hopefully, you’ll spend at least $200 in a year on charitable donations, or give those expensive shoes to Goodwill when they’re no longer cool for you to wear.

I have roughly about 50 pairs of shoes myself. People say I have too many shoes. I had a lot more at one time…for the past 3yrs I go through my shoes every 6 months or so and donate the shoes I no longer wear to Good Will or Salvation Army, etc. The most I have spent on shoes were about $150 of my own money! I’m a single mom, so I cannot afford to purchase expensive shoes very often. However, my feet are flat and wide and a size 10 so that makes it very difficult to find shoes that fit my fit and that are comfortable at a low price. If I didn’t have a child I would probably purchase shoes more often like I did before I had a kid. I still buy the same type of shoes I would purchase before just not so many because of other responsibilities I now have. People have various reason to why they purchase products at such a high price. IF they can afford it I really don’t see a problem with it. I look at shoes the same as money spent on entertainment (concerts, sports activities, video systems/games, car accessories), dining out, jewelry, etc. To each his own! Just b/c you wouldn’t spend that much on a pair of shoes that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Just b/c a person spends that much on shoes doesn’t mean they don’t give back to their community or do volunteer work, etc. Just my POV….

While there are definitely things you don’t want to scrimp on for comfort’s sake (shoes & underwear), I can’t imagine paying more than $60.00 for a good pair of shoes. It’s more fun to find a good brand on sale. I probably have about 10 pairs I wear regularly and then the rest go to charity unless they are too grungy then they get trashed. It’s interesting that most of the persons posting who bought expensive shoes seem to want to justify the purchase with an explanation.

If you pay more than $40 for any article of clothing you’re an idiot. Clothes are the most worthless thing you can buy. $200 for shoes? Give me a break. I don’t care if you’re Bill Gates, $200 for shoes is ridiculous.

I most definitely have issues when it comes to shoes. Shoe anonymous anyone? However, for me personally nothing beats getting a good deal on a shoe. 200 dollars? Not too sure about that one…I have yet to reach baller status. I bargain shop, so I can normally get shoes that would usually cost 70 or 80 dollars for about have the price or less…

WOW!! How about I have money in the bank and love shoes and purses!! Not to mention that I don’t have to donate to any charity or give money to someone less fortunate. And guess what? God does not judge me or anyone else for spending money that we work for. Just because you don’t agree with paying alot of money for shoes, that’s U and not me. Bottom line, what I do with my money is my business. No one told you to have children and bargain shop at Payless your whole life!

Sadly, some of us who have narrow feet have to spend $65 and up per pair of shoes. Very few stores carry narrow widths and many of the ones that do only carry them in brands that only make $200 shoes. For those of you with narrow feet, naturalizer.com has a great selection and sends lots of coupons.

Arrogant, selfish, vain people make the baby Jesus cry.
You can also throw your money into the fireplace and burn it. We sure can’t tell you it’s not your right. But it’s just as stupid as spending that kind of money on shoes. Face it…the people who spend $200-$300 on a pair of shoes already have a closet full of them. They’re not going to wear them out anyway, so the excuse about them lasting is bogus.
I see people driving $100,000+ Mercedes S-class cars every day. Sure, they’ll last a long time, but they DO lose their value, and you are spending many multiples per driven mile compared to a Honda. But hey, it’s your money. Toss it away if it makes you feel good.
Isn’t that the key? People buy these things for attention, because it makes them “feel good”. Enlightenment doesn’t come easy. Some never find it. I doubt Paris Hilton has found it yet.

There are 4 things everyone should do with hard/easy earned money: save (retirement, education, small business, trips); spend (household bills, household necessities, family leisure, clothes, shoes); invest (401K,company stock, investments through your insurance company or bank) and give (church, parents, a friend who is struggling etc). When you regulate your mindset to do so irrespective of where you fall on the earrning spectrum you will never feel guilty.
I like to shop at Saks, Macy’s, Sabot and Palo’s Shoe Gallery.

I must be one of the few women alive that own less than 5 pairs of shoes. Saving up for a house is a bit more important than accessorizing the outfit.

I am a women and let’s be honest here. Women buy expensive purses and shoes to impress other women. Someone who loves fashion, I once read an article of a famous shoe designer who said a good quality shoe start at about $60. We women have too many shoes. It’s okay to buy expensive purses and shoes if you’re only getting one or two a year. I buy a Kate Spade or Furla(can’t stand those pretentious bags and shoes with designer logos all over them) purse and one pair of designer shoes, about $300 dollars. When I stop wearing or carrying them I passed them on to my teen da
