ZARA Opens
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Zara officially opens today in Lenox Mall in the new Neiman Marcus wing.
The 10,000 sq. foot store, a Spanish import, features trendy international fashions for men and women.
Zara was founded in 1975 in Spain. According to some reports, in 2006, it overtook H&M (gasp!) as Europe’s largest fashion retailer.
Any thoughts on Zara’s arrival?

The New Urban
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Next month Urban Outfitters launches a new partnership.
In-store shops will carry merchandise from Nylon…that’s Nylon the magazine, not the material.
Apparel, CD’s, and more will be on display in Urban’s 113 locations.
In honor of the new partnership, here’s a fashion trivia question: What are the two other brands owned by Urban Outfitters, Inc.?

Mall Valet
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I spend a lot of time at malls, and admittedly on a Saturday, I will drive around for hours on end looking for a parking space. I do the slow crawl behind shoppers exiting with bags, waiting for them to vacate a spot.
Then it occurred to me (thanks to a co-worker), “Duh, Valet???” which I’ve never used, but it seems to be a standard here in Atlanta.
Do you use valet parking when you hit the mall? Why or why not?

Has anyone spotted Target’s parent inventors collection?
The products, all invented by moms and dads, include the Strollometer by Adi and Dan Weber of Great Neck New York, which attaches to strollers to measure speed, distance and more.

Products are available at Target.com until December.

Wal-Mart Style Match
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Need to merge your roommate’s style with your own?
Check out Wal-Mart’s “Roommate Style Match” on facebook.com.
You and your roommate can take a quiz to determine how your styles will mesh, and then you can go to the Wal-Mart site to purchase stuff.
So far, facebook types seem more interested in commenting about Wal-Mart unionizing and capitalism than interior decorating.

Celebrity Hairstylists
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Remember Mia Farrow’s big hair chop for Rosemary’s Baby?
Quick, who was the stylist?
Vidal Sassoon was already famous in 1967 when he cut Farrow’s hair but these days, celebrity stylists often become household names after they’re linked to a celeb (think Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves).
Which celebrity stylists, if any, do you know by name?
And who are the celebs they work with?

Boutique Bandit is Back
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The boutique bandit has struck again.
Thread House, a new store on West Peachtree, was broken into early Friday.
The bandits, who were caught on film, busted through the front doors and took a mix of high end denim, rock ‘n’ roll style tees and some women’s clothing.
The store had been burglarized for the first time less than a month ago.
For now, Thread House has resorted to installing steel gates.

Consignment Shopping
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Do you shudder at the thought of wearing second hand clothes or have you mapped out every resale store in the Atlanta metro area?
It’s true not all resale stores are high quality, but finding the gems could mean owning designer clothing and handbags at 80 to 90% off.
Consignment stores, which sell items and then pay a portion of the sale to the owner, are one avenue to get better quality merchandise than you may find at the local Salvi.
Do you think resale is taboo?
Which consignment stores in Atlanta do you like?

Wholesale Warehouse Wars
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Retail experts have estimated the value of the Costco shopper at $100,000 annual income. Costco, they say, has some of the most affluent customers.
In fact, when Costco shows up in a new development, that allegedly attracts all the other retailers who want to reach big spenders.
But what of BJ’s Wholesale and Sam’s Club? Are those for the masses, while Costco is for the shopping elite?
In the world of warehouse club giants, which one do you prefer? Why?

Tax Free Terror
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Whew!
Tax free weekend is over. We heard and witnessed some horrendous tales about a few overzealous shoppers.
Apparently some Atlantans got off tax free with more than $100 in clothing. Some others thought tax free weekend would be a good time to harass sales people.
Did you spot any shameful shopping this weekend?
Did anyone get free tax when they shouldn’t have?

Grady Goes to Hollywood
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta’s Grady High School went Hollywood last week when an idea hatched by teacher, Vincent Martinez, and his students got red carpet treatment.
Martinez was on the treadmill when he came up with the slogan “Feed the Models, Save the World,” which ended up on a t-shirt designed by Atlanta-based duo Mike and Gina Hecht of Project e.
Martinez, Project e and Grady students managed to sell more than 1000 tees with 100% of profits going to the Eating Disorders Information Network, a charity that travels to schools to generate awareness of eating disorders.
When the shirts sold well, they decided to do a national launch at Parc restaurant in Hollywood. Celebs including Paris Hilton, Taryn Manning and Kathy Najimy attended.
