Health Tip: Common Causes of Fever

(HealthDay News) -- Each of us has an internal thermostat in the brain that raises or lowers our body temperature. Fever occurs when the body's temperature is raised above normal.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, common causes of fever are:

  • An infection or illness.
  • Overdressing -- infants who are dressed too warmly or bundled too tightly could develop a fever because they cannot properly regulate their body temperature.
  • Response to a recent vaccination.
  • Teething (in this case, rarely is fever higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit).
