(HealthDay News) -- There may be nothing women can do if their infertility is associated with genetic issues or an illness.

But the American Pregnancy Association says there are general steps women can take to decrease the likelihood of an infertility issue:

  • Avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Don't use illegal drugs.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol use.
  • Adopt good hygiene and general health practices.
