Health Tip: Throw a Safe Holiday Party

(HealthDayNews) -- If you're planning to host a holiday party soon, the National Commission Against Drunk Driving suggests these tips:

  • Encourage your guests ahead of time to designate a driver.
  • Collect guests' keys upon arrival, and make sure they are sober before their keys are returned.
  • Plan activities so the focus isn't just on drinking.
  • Include non-alcoholic beverages alongside alcoholic drinks.
  • If serving punch containing alcohol, mix with a non-carbonated base such as a fruit juice. Carbonated bases speed up the absorption of alcohol into the blood stream.
  • Designate one person to serve as the bartender. This will help control the number of drinks served and the amount of alcohol in each drink.
