Definition:

A tumor of the pancreas characterized by diarrhea, hypokalemia (low blood potassium), and achlorhydria (low acid in the stomach).

Causes and Risks

VIPomas are tumors of one of the hormone secreting cells in the pancreas. There is no known cause for VIPoma nor are there any identifiable risk factors.

VIPomas are usually diagnosed in adulthood, most commonly at age 50 or so. Women are more likely to be affected than men.
