Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease; CPPD
Treatment Treatment may involve joint aspiration to relieve pressure within the joint caused by fluid build-up. A needle is placed into the joint and fluid is removed (aspirated). Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) may be given to relieve the pain of acute attacks. Colchicine may be useful in some people. Prognosis The probable outcome is good with treatment. Complications Permanent joint damage can occur without treatment. Call Your Health Care Provider If: Call for an appointment with your health care provider if you have attacks of joint swelling and joint pain.
