Back pain - nonspecific
Symptoms Signs and Tests A physical examination focused on the back, the abdomen, and the extremities, may confirms back pain or some muscle spasm but does not indicate a specific cause (such as a herniated disk) or any neurological deficit (weakness or change in sensation). X-rays of the spine are a standard test and will be normal. A myelogram (an X-ray or CT of the spine after dye has be injected into the spinal column) may be necessary. Alternative studies include a CT of lumbosacral spine or MRI of lumbosacral spine.
