Symptoms

Symptoms associated with obstructive uropathy vary according to the time interval over which the obstruction occurs, whether the obstruction is unilateral or bilateral, the etiology of the obstruction and whether the obstruction is complete or partial. Common symptoms of obstructive uropathy include:

  • Flank pain
  • Bilateral or unilateral
  • Colicky or severe
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Fever
  • Dysuria
  • Fowl smelling urine
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Renal failure
  • Weight gain/edema
  • Decreased urine output

The diagnosis of obstructive uropathy is made on imaging studies. Common radiographic studies used to diagnose obstructive uropathy include:
