Symptoms The symptoms of non-bacterial prostatitis are identical to chronic prostatitis. The difference between the two diseases is the ability to determine the cause of the prostatic inflammation. The common symptoms associated with non-bacterial prostatitis include:
Signs and Tests A physical examination is usually normal except some patients may have a prostate that is swollen, firm, warm, and tender. A urinalysis reveals increased white blood cells without bacterial growth upon culture of urine #3. Blood may be detected in the urine. Prostatic secretions contain increased levels of white blood cells and also don't have bacteria. A semen culture may also be requested. The semen culture will also not demonstrate bacterial infection. Semen analysis of patients with non-bacterial prostatitis may demonstrate increased numbers of white blood cells decreased number of sperm with poor mobility.
