Overview | Symptoms | Treatment | Prevention
Trichiniasis; Trichinellosis
Treatment There is no specific treatment for trichinosis once the larvae have invaded the muscles. Albendazole can work on the intestinal forms, but not on the muscle forms. Analgesics can relieve the muscle pain. Prognosis Severity of trichinosis depends on how heavily the individual is infested. Light infestations may go unnoticed. Heavier infestations may cause severe symptoms. Very heavy infestations may result in heart failure. Complications Call Your Health Care Provider If: Call your health provider if you have symptoms suggestive of trichinosis and a recent history of eating undercooked or raw meat that might have been contaminated.
