Symptoms

The symptoms of psychotic depression are a combination of symptoms of depression and symptoms of psychosis. The delusions are often mood congruent; that is, they are consistent with the depression. Most commonly these are delusions of guilt or persecution, or hearing voices that criticize the person.

Signs and Tests

A clinical evaluation consisting of interview, physical examination, and laboratory tests are used to make the diagnosis.
