Symptoms

Delusions and hallucinations are common, as is a bizarre affect, lack of interest in pleasurable things, and lack of motivation. The symptoms of the disorganized subtype are the same as in schizophrenia, but the disorganized speech, behavior, and flat affect are the most prominent symptoms. In many ways, this is the type of schizophrenia depicted in movies.

Signs and Tests

A clinical evaluation consisting of interview, physical examination, and laboratory tests are used to make the diagnosis.
