Withdrawal from opioids
Definition:
An acute state caused by the withdrawal of opioid narcotics from an individual who has become addicted to narcotics. the reaction may consist of sweating, shaking, headache, craving, vomiting, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, inability to sleep, confusion, agitation, and other behavioral changes.
Causes and Risks Abuse of opiates is estimated to occur in about 5% of the population. Withdrawal from opioids will likely occur whenever any chronic use is discontinued or reduced.
