Overview

Alternative names:

Location of most skin cancers

Information

Question:
Where do most skin cancers usually appear on the body?

Answer:
Squamous cell and basal cell skin cancers are usually found on sun exposed areas such as the face, neck, and lower legs.

The more worrisome melanoma skin cancers are most frequently found on the backs of men, or on the backs or legs in women.

Benign moles are usually small, symmetrical, and a single shade of brown with even edges. Malignant melanomas tend to be larger than a pencil eraser and have two or more colors (usually black and brown) as well as uneven edges. See malignant melanoma.
