Gram stain of pericardial fluid
Normal Values The absence of organisms in the Gram stain is normal. What Abnormal Results Mean An infection of the pericardium or heart may be present, if bacteria are seen. A specific organism may be identified by further testing, such as bacterial culture. Sometimes serology testing can help with the diagnosis.
