TV Best Bets: Gearing up for Oscar, New York ‘Housewives’ return

There are no major new series debuting this week, but “The Real Housewives of New York” are back, if that’s any compensation.

Oh, and some pesky awards show dubbed the Oscars airs Sunday sans a comic host. Instead, they are opting for charming actor Hugh Jackman.

MONDAY

“The Bachelor,” 8 p.m. ABC — Jason spent alone time with three remaining women: Jillian, Moly and Melissa. And brace for a visit from the Newnan gal who rejected him in 2008: DeAnna Pappas.

“House,” 8 p.m. Fox — This was the episode meant to air last week but was preempted by the President. In it, House confronts Foreman and Thirteen about their hot and heavy love affair.

“Heroes,” 9 p.m. NBC — Sylar seeks his daddy while Homeland Security starts investigating these odd Hero types.

“24” 9 p.m. Fox — Chloe clashes with Janis Gold (played annoyingly by Janeane Garafalo.).

“Medium,” 10 p.m. NBC — Patricia Arquette directs her first episode in an episode where Allison acts even stranger than she normally does.

TUESDAY

“American Idol,” 8 p.m. Fox — The first set of 12 semifinalists perform tonight.

“The Biggest Loser: Couples,” 8 p.m. NBC— All but two teams lose their gym privileges. Bring on the nachos!

“NCIS,” 8 p.m. CBS — Tony and Gibbs swap roles after a murder leads to the revival of a cold case.

“Nip/Tuck,” 10 p.m. FX— The new anesthesiologist is played by Katee Sackhoff of “Battlestar Galactica.” Will Sean be able to keep it, um, professional?

“The Real Housewives if Orange County,” 10 p.m. Bravo (season finale)— Season four draws to a close with, of course, a big party.

“The Real Housewives of New York,” 11 p.m. Bravo (season debut)— A new wife joins the cast.

WEDNESDAY

“American Idol,” 8 p.m. Fox — The top male and female vote getters and the next highest vote getter survive. The other nine await a chance for a wild-card spot.

“The New Adventures of Old Christine,” 8 p.m. CBS — After Ritchie gets injured under Richard’s watch, Christine starts competing him to see who is the worse parent.

“Lost,” 9 p.m. ABC — The Oceanic 6 can get back to the island but not everyone wants to go.

“Lie to Me,” 9 p.m. Fox — Lightman & Co. try to prevent the assassination of a South Korean ambassador.

“Damages,” 10 p.m. FX — Ellen is not pleased when Patty starts working with Frobisher.

“Top Chef: New York,” 10 p.m. Bravo — Emeril Lagasse helps the final four get some bam for their buck.

THURSDAY

“Bones,” 8 p.m. Fox — Brennan has to investigate the death of a gal in medieval garb during a Dragoncon-type convention.

“My Name is Earl,” 8 p.m. NBC — Crabman’s dad (Danny Glover) enters the picture.

“Kath & Kim,” 8:30 p.m. NBC — Ron White plays Kath’s ex.

“CSI,” 9 p.m. CBS —Langston hits the drama button during a congressman’s trial.

“Hell’s Kitchen,” 9 p.m. Fox — Gordon Ramsay tests the contestants’ skills with meat.

“Grey’s Anatomy,” 9 p.m. ABC — Amid rumors that Katharine Heigl might be leaving the show, the focus right now is on Addison cross-promoting “Private Practice” by re-visiting Seattle Grace.

“ER,” 10 p.m. NBC — Noah Wyle returns as Dr. Carter in yet another visit by an alum.

FRIDAY

“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” 8 p.m. Fox — Shirley Manson’s Catherine Weaver sends an agent to a company town to do some dirty work.

“Dollhouse” 9 p.m. Fox — Echo works with a hunter while FBI Agent Ballard hunts for the Dollhouse.

“Friday Night Lights,” 9 p.m. NBC — Tyra hooking up with Cash over Landy gets complicated when a woman arrives claiming to be Cash’s baby mama.

“Monk,” 9 p.m. USA (season finale) —Monk fights a parking garage destruction because it’s where his wife was killed.

“Battlestar Galactica,” 10 p.m. SciFi— Kara gets serious with a new man who hopefully isn’t a Cylon.

“Real Time With Bill Maher,”10 p.m. HBO (season debut) — HBO moves Maher’s liberal-leaning talk show up two hours

“Independence Spirit Awards,” 5 p.m. Saturday IFC — Steve Coogan hosts .

“Gone Country,” 8 p.m. Saturday CMT — John Rich sends the cast to New York City to perform at the USS Intrepid.

“Taking Chance,” 8 p.m. Saturday HBO — Kevin Bacon stars as senior officer escorting the body of a fallen Marine across the country..

“The 81st Academy Awards,” 8 p.m. Sunday ABC — Can “Slumdog Millionaire” hit the jackpot winning here, too.? Hugh Jackman hosts.
