‘Battlestar Galactica’ ends, more ‘Dancing’ injuries, ‘Idol’ cuts to 10

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Sunday, March 15, 2009

The big focus this week is the end of “Battlestar Galactica,” one of the most critically praised scifi dramas in recent history.

Otherwise, it’s your usual array of “Idol” madness (it’s country week), “Dancing With the Stars” injuries, and “Lost” mysteries (why the heck are they in the 1970s?”).

RECENT HEADLINES

MONDAY

“Dancing With the Stars,” 8 p.m. ABC — Steve-O and Steve Wozniak now have injuries but neither have a prayer of winning anyway.

“House,” 8 p.m. Fox — Judy Greer plays a character who thinks a cat has predicted her death. House will certainly bat her down.

“How I Met Your Mother,” 8:30 p.m. CBS — So is Lily really controlling Ted’s relationships? .

“24,” 9 p.m. Fox — Renee picks up a key piece of evidence as Jack continues to mourn the death of Bill Buchanan. We miss him, too.

“Kyle XY,” 9 p.m. ABC Family (series finale) — The boy with the missing belly button fights his last fight after three seasons.

“Castle” 10 p.m. ABC — This new crime drama lost half the “Dancing With the Stars” audience last week. Not a promising start.

TUESDAY

“American Idol,” 8 p.m. Fox — Sad to see Jorge Nunez say adios so soon but he was kind of saced to sing country anyway. Next out? Kinda dull Kris Allen and overrated Anoop Desai. With Grand Ol Opry as the them, surely someone will sing a Carrie Underwood song.

“The Biggest Loser: Couples,” 8 p.m. NBC — The couples go home for a week and run a half marathon.

“The Mentalist,” 9 p.m. CBS — Jealousy alert: Wayne frowns when he hears newbie Grace smoochin’ her new beau

“Dancing With the Stars,” 9 p.m. ABC — Jewel returns — not to dance, but to sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

“Real Housewives of New York City,” 10 p.m. Bravo —Jill checks out Alex and Simon’s less-than-enthralling Brooklyn home.

“Without a Trace,” 10 p.m. CBS — Vanessa Marcil (“Las Vegas”) starts a multi-episode arc playing Martin’s romantic connection.

WEDNESDAY

“Lie to Me” 8 p.m. Fox — Lightman is hired by an old friend to find a corporate spy at a pharmaceutical company.

“Chopping Block” 8 p.m. NBC — This culinary reality show had distasteful ratings last Wednesday (4 million viewers.)

“Better Off Ted” 8:30 p.m. ABC (new series) — ABC’s attempt at “quirky” fails in a show about Ted, who works at a moral cesspool of a company. Watch “Gary Unmarried” on CBS instead.

“American Idol,” 9 p.m. Fox — Then there were ten.

“Lost,” 9 p.m. ABC — After promising no repeats for “Lost,” the network gave us one last week. Sawyer, the king of cons, has to keep perpetuating lies when Jack and Kate and some of the others unexpectedly return to the island — in the 1970s.

THURSDAY

“My Name is Earl,” 8 p.m. NBC — The always busy Betty White guest stars as the “witch of Camden.”

“Ugly Betty,” 8 p.m. ABC (final episode before hiatus) — This show had its lowest ratings ever last week and might not make it another season Betty gets a makeover (it’s about time!).

“Grey’s Anatomy,” 9 p.m. ABC — Another show losing steam, Meredith tries to coax Derek back to work.

“The Office,” 9 p.m. NBC — As Michael plans his 15th anniversary at Dunder Mifflin, a new boss comes into town. Uh oh.

“Hell’s Kitchen,” 9 p.m. Fox — Based on the previews, expect lots of yelling and cursing courtesy of Gordon Ramsay — just like every other week. And heed the promo guy’s warning: “This will be the most… explosive… Hell’s Kitchen… yet!”

“Taking the Stage,” 10 p.m. MTV (new series) — “The Hills” meets “Fame” via the Cincy School for the Creating and Performing Arts.

FRIDAY

“WWE Smackdown,” 8 p.m. MNT — The 500th episode!

“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” 8 p.m. Fox — Jesse goes into the future, where he messes with the present of John, Sarah and Derek .

“Friday Night Lights,” 9 p.m. NBC —Landry, who still has a hankering for Tara, offers to help her with her S.A.T.s.

“Dollhouse,” 9 p.m. Fox — Patton Oswalt (“King of Queens”) plays a Web guru with a jonesing for Echo’s housewife persona.

“Battlestar Galactica,” 10 p.m. SciFi (season finale)— This acclaimed drama comes to a very top secret end.

“Head Case,” 10 p.m. Starz (season debut) — Fake celeb therapist Dr. Elizabeth Good digs into Macy Gray, Tori Spelling and Janeane Garofalo.

WEEKEND

“Nora Roberts’ Northern Lights,” 9 p.m. Saturday Lifetime — LeAnn Rimes plays leading lady in this romance-suspense drama based on the novel.

“The Locator,” 9 p.m. Saturday WE (season debut) — Troy Dunn is back to help reunite families.

“Big Love,” 9 p.m. HBO Sunday (season finale)— Bill tries to get rid of Roman once and for all.

“Cold Case,” 9 p.m. Sunday CBS — The music focuses on John Lennon as Lily investigates whether a paranoid schizophrenic murdered his pyschiatrist in 2004.

“Desperate Housewives,” 9 p.m. Sunday ABC — Edie finds out she married a psychopath.

“Eastbound & Down,” 10:30 p.m. Sunday HBO (season finale) — Kenny jumps ship from his teaching gig for a possible pitching gig in Miami.
