‘Life After People’ premieres; ‘American Idol’ will dump two

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Sunday, April 19, 2009

It’s a very quiet week for new shows, though History Channel’s “Life After People” Tuesday is highly recommended.

But there’s plenty of drama over on “24” Monday after last week’s shocker, and “American Idol” is planning a double elimination Wednesday. Even “Amazing Race” has more fireworks than usual on Sunday.

‘Life After People’ speculates that zoo animals would be found prowling in cities such as Washington D.C.

MONDAY

“Bones,” 8 p.m. Fox — A second week with two fresh “Bones” episodes. First up: a colleague dies but Brennan isn’t sure it’s just garden variety heart failure.

“Dancing With the Stars,” 8 p.m. ABC — With Steve-O gone, the weakest link now is Ty Murray. Lawrence Taylor is also in trouble.

“Chuck,” 8 p.m. NBC — Chuck and Sarah try to save Chuck’s dad. And check out Chevy Chase as a bad guy.

“24,” 9 p.m. Fox — Tony, Tony, Tony! Almeida shocked the “24” loyalists last week with his cold killing of FBI honcho Larry Moss. What will he do this week? And how will ever-sicker Jack handle the betrayal when he hears about it?

“For the Love of Ray J,” 10 p.m. VH1 (season finale) — One of the girls leaves early so Ray J focuses on the two remaining girls.

TUESDAY

“According to Jim,” 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m. ABC — For the morbidly curious, we’re simply highlighting this to point out that this show is still pumping out new episodes.

“American Idol,” 8 p.m. Fox — Shake your groove thang, people, because it’s disco night at on the “Idol” stage. Expectations are high for Adam Lambert. Kris Allen? Not so much.

“The Biggest Loser,” 8 p.m. NBC — Bob and Jillian teach proper grocery shopping.

“Dancing With the Stars,” 9 p.m. ABC — The likeliest top 3 are Gilles, Lil Kim and Melissa. Natasha Bedingfield and the Celtic Women perform.

“Rescue Me,” 10 p.m. FX — Black Shawn is dating Tommy’s daughter and Tommy has some strange ideas to stop it.

“Life After People: The Series,” 10 p.m. History (season debut) — After last year’s successful special about what would happen if people just disappeared, History has turned it into a regular series. Cool graphics and a portentious voiceover makes for a fun show.

WEDNESDAY

“America’s Next Top Model,” 8 p.m. the CW — The ladies are off to Brazil, including Kewpie doll Allison, who barely made it through last week.

“Lie to Me,” 8 p.m. Fox — Jennifer Beals guests as Lightman’s ex wife and things respark.

“Lost,” 9 p.m. ABC — Warning: this is recap episode, not a new one.

“American Idol,” 9 p.m. ABC — Disco icons and David Archuleta perform as two people get eliminated thanks to the save last week.

“The Cougar,” 10 p.m. TV Land — Last week, the only Atlanta representative was canned. Tasteless jokes and a lack of employment did not impress the Cougar.

“Criminal Minds,” 10 p.m. CBS — Not all the child abductions may have been done by the accused.

THURSDAY

“Bones,” 8 p.m. Fox — Boone’s buddy’s sis goes missing and the team tries to solve the case.

“Survivor: Tocantins,” 8 p.m. CBS — Brendan was blindsided last week. Could Coach be next? The original tribe is combined, but there are multiple cross alliances.

“Samantha Who?” 8:30 p.m. ABC — Billy Zane (“Titanic”) guests as Sam’s rich boss Winston Funk

“Grey’s Anatomy,” 9 p.m. ABC — While Izzie faces tough cancer treatment, she dives into planning Derek and Merdith’s wedding.

“The Office,” 9 p.m. NBC — Michael Scott keeps plugging away at his new company. How long will he be able to last?

“The Beast,” 10 p.m. A&E (season finale) — With Patrick Swayze looking so weak in recent photos, a second season may never happen.

FRIDAY

“Everybody Hates Chris,” 8 p.m. the CW — Good news: Chris gets a girlfriend. Bad news: he has to do everything she says.

“Ghost Whisperer,” 8 p.m. CBS — Melinda must intervene when a ghost wreaks havoc on a soap opera set.

“Prison Break,” 8 p.m. Fox — T Bag causes a scene at the Indian Embassy and that is rarely a good thing for anybody but T Bag.

“Wife Swap,” 8 p.m. ABC — A cowboy family swaps wives with vegan astrologers. We predict a… clash!

“Dollhouse,” 9:01 p.m. Fox — The future of his series is grim but if you’re still tracking it, Echo gets imprinted by a dead woman’s memories and must solve her “own” murder.

“Numb3rs,” 10 p.m. CBS — Don suffers a life-threatening injury.

WEEKEND

“Cribs,” 7:30 p.m. Saturday CMT — Check out Dale Earnhardt’s pad.

“Streisand: Live in Concert,” 8 p.m. tonight CBS — The original diva is back. (Take that, Celine!)

“Chasing a Dream,” 9 p.m. tonight Hallmark — Treat Williams stars in a film described as “an emotional story of friendship, family, and finding hope in a special promise.” Hallmark knows how to pull those heartstrings!

“King of the Hill,” 7:30 p.m. Sunday Fox — This military-themed episode is its 250th.

“The Amazing Race,” 8 p.m. Sunday CBS — Watch for some serious fireworks at the mat as a word that rhymes with “witch” is banded about.

“Desperate Housewives” 9 p.m. Sunday ABC — Plenty of secrets are revealed tonight as Susan confides in Dave, Katherin confesses to Mike and Orsen fails to hide the truth from Bree.

“Celebrity Apprentice,” 9 p.m. Sunday NBC — Can’t wait to see the Rivers family try to take down Annie Duke.

“Breaking Bad,” 10 p.m. Sunday AMC — When Badger gets in trouble, Jesse and Walt seek advice from a shady lawyer.
