The most popular beer in Georgia happens to be a local brew from one of the best breweries in the nation.
According to data site Priceonomics, folks in the southern state are more likely to order the Atlanta-made SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale at local bars and restaurants than any other beer.
That’s based on an analysis of menus from 6,000 bars and restaurants across the country submitted to BeerMenus.com. Only bars and restaurants that submit their listings to BeerMenus were included in the analysis.
According to the data, more than half (52 percent) of Georgia restaurants or bars offer the SweetWater Brewing Company beverage on their menus.
In Atlanta, 69 percent of restaurants and bars carry the drink, analysts found.
The pale ale was first brewed in 1997 “with a good hop feel to it and a crisp finish.”
Since then, it’s garnered its share of recognition, such as the No. 15 spot in Brewers Association’s top 50 craft and overall brewing companies in the U.S., the 2002 silver medal in the Great American Beer Festival, award for best local beer from 1997-2005 by Creative Loafing’s reader’s choice and another silver medal for best local beer in the 1998 World Beer Cup.
Macro brews like Bud Light, Miller Lite and Coors Light were among the top most popular in the nation.View full experience
