Winner: Best Atlanta sports star | Best of Atlanta

Last week we were recruiting the best Atlanta sports stars of all time.

Your voice was heard loud and clear on the pick for Atlanta’s true MVP.

Who scores a home run in your personal playbook?

You guessed it − Chipper Jones.

The third baseman spent his entire 19-year MLB career playing for the Atlanta Braves. On June 28, 2013, the Braves retired Jones' number 10 and inducted him into the team's Hall of Fame. He returned to the team, and to Atlanta, last year in a coaching and advisory role. Welcome home, Chipper.

In a close second is Deion Sanders, who played in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons, the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens, winning the Super Bowl with both the 49ers and the Cowboys. An outfielder in baseball, he played professionally for the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees,  the Cincinnati Reds and the San Francisco Giants, as well as participating in the 1992 World Series with the Braves. Deion's professional accolades speak for themselves.

Coming in third is no other than Dominique Wilkins, a retired professional basketball player who primarily played for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. Wilkins was a nine-time NBA All-Star and is widely viewed as one of the best dunkers in NBA history, earning the nickname The Human Highlight Film. In 2006, Wilkins was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Atlanta has been the home for some of the best athletes of all time. Our other official nominees deserve some love, too: Herschel Walker (Georgia Bulldogs), Tommy Nobis (Atlanta Falcons), Gwen Torrence (University of Georgia), Pete Maravich (Atlanta Hawks) and Teresa Edwards (Georgia Bulldogs).
