She’s selling her art to pay for his cancer treatment
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Su and Gordon Daitch
Su Daitch is as colorful as her paintings.
An effervescent personality, the self-taught artist has work hanging in shops and restaurants around town, and is a regular at Simpatico, on the Marietta Square, on Saturdays. She teaches art workshops there during the day. Many of her pieces hang in adjoining Wilie Rae’s.
“She’s awesome,” says Ben Lyman, who owns both eateries.
Recently, Su told friends on her web site, that she’s having a “fire sale” and unloading her entire inventory. Though she’s been reluctant to part with some pieces, especially early works, this is an emergency.
Gordon Daitch, her husband of 17 years, has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and faces surgery on April 22. The couple lack health insurance. Their main asset, besides their home, is Su’s art.
“One of the greatest things Su has done for the whole world is let people’s inner artist out,” says her friend Nancy Lindgren of EnAble Georgia. “She has the ability to coax a Picasso out of a desperate housewife. In those couple of hours you are in her class, she shows you how to open up that secret door and have such fun that you’ll never let it close again.”
Kathy Socha, owner of Generations Gallery at Indian Springs, wrote to say the gallery would be hosting a special sale of Su’s work, and accepting donations on the Daitches’ behalf.
The couple’s friends also have started talking about organizing a fundraiser, so stay tuned.

This story has stuck with me since I read it and I’ve kept the article and have visited the website many times. I want to come to a Sat am class with my almost artist son, but haven’t made the time, yet. I would like to buy some artwork as well. Are you going to be at Simpatico soon?
