Would You Donate Breast Milk to Make Ice Cream?

BREAST IS BEST — BUT NOT FOR BECHAMEL

Okay, here’s one for the record books. The crazy courier. The whack-a-doodle times. Honestly, I’ve been laughing out loud: There’s a press release going around purporting that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has petitioned Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream to use human breast milk instead of cow’s milk in their famous ice cream.

According to the release, a restaurant in Switzerland called Storchen (sounds an awful lot like ‘stork” eh?) in the prestigious Winterthur resort (read a related article, here will be serving soups, stews and sauces made with at least 75% human breast milk.

Did aliens just land from outer space and no one told me? What planet were these folks raised on? Forget the lactose-intolerant-dairy-free-or-die debate. My biggest question for the chef, Hans Locher, is where the heck is he getting the milk? That’s an awful lot of breast milk. Apparently he’s offering “just over three pounds” (that’s about $5.40) for 14 ounces. Women of Switzerland: Unite! Use those breast pumps! You can make a fortune … or maybe just a few extra quid for the moo-vies. Do you know how hard it is to pump 14 ounces of breast milk?

Has anyone told this guy, a so-called “gastronomist,” that human breast milk has a completely different physical and chemical makeup than cow’s milk? That it will react very differently when exposed to heat and cold than other mammal’s milk? I guess so, because apparently he’s supplementing his use of breast milk with “whipped cream.” Oh. Well then. That must go under the same “what’s the point” heading as a rum and Diet Coke.

Whether or not the letter enclosed in the release is authentic or not is uncertain. It is signed by Tracy Reiman, PETA’s exec VP, with a cry for giving “cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching to breast milk in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

This brings a whole new meaning to Chunky Monkey.

Nope, I wouldn’t donate for ice cream. I would’ve donated to the milk bank in NC if I’d known about it while my kiddo the appropriate age, so they could get the milk to preemies. But to make ice cream? no.

But that would have been the easiest money ever… but $5.40 for 14 oz seems low for what people pay.

Um… I’m thinking NO, and I’m hoping B&J is thinking the same!

Has it really come to this? First, we can’t find gas, if any, at a decent price. Wall street and the housing market are both crumbling before our eyes and NOW, breast-milk to make ice cream? I have truly heard it all…too much to digest…no pun intended!!

I’m against cannibalism, but I would eat roasted PETA.

Maybe they can pump me for “milk”. We can convince America to drink my milky goodness.

Thousands of men would volunteer to “donate”.

This is something I have always wanted to ask:

Why is human milk referred to as “human breast milk”? Do we call cow’s milk “cow’s udder milk”?

The term “human milk” describes exactly what it is. The word breast is unnecessary….where else would the milk come from?

This is “udderly” the worst idea I’ve ever heard. I truly hope we, as a society, are not “moo-ving” in this direction.

@ Former Metro Atlanta - “porno pic”? Really? Come on …

However, the idea of ice cream from human milk is, and I can’t quite put my finger on why, kinda gross to me.

Besides, I don’t think that mother’s milk will make ice cream, will it? Isn’t there something about the fats in whole cow’s milk that helps make good ice cream?

While this all sounds wacky… PETA does have a point.. Cows milk is for baby calves… it makes no sense for us to be drinking milk from another species.. also milk is kinda nasty. its been proven that there is pus in milk.

check it out. www.milksucks.com

Lisalu: At first I was going to bash you and tell you to get over it, but now I’m kinda thinking you have a point. We should either say “human milk” or “breast milk,” but probably not both. But I THINK the reason we use both is to designate that we are talking about HUMANS and BREAST milk — not ape milk, etc… and “former metro atlantan” — get over it. That’s some pretty prudish porn… By the way, the authorities in Switzerland are having a hissy fit with this guy — they can’t decide if what he’s doing is even legal, much less sane.

wake up nutbars that picture at the top depicts a HUMAN drinking from another human why do you all think breast milk is gross? Just because you aren’t an infant anymore doesn’t mean that milk is now suddenly something to be afraid of(it’s not dangerous you know). Grow up people.

Ooooh Bleah Eeeeuw!
What does a specific mother eat? What meds or drugs? What deseases might she have?

Why aren’t those PETA people locked away so they can’t hurt themselves? They could actually be consuming breast milk that was tainted with MEAT. Why do we even listen to such a small faction? Because they are so “outer fringe” ridiculus.

Grow up Jon.
