'The Great New Wonderful' is sometimes unsettlingly funny

The year-after-9/11 "The Great New Wonderful" is not exactly a great comedy-drama but certainly a film with its share of wonderful moments. The story intently follows a parade of New York characters in their everyday lives 12 months after the emotional upheaval of the city's most tragic day. Five stories woven together and told against the backdrop of an anxious and uncertain post-9/11 New York, including a psychologist who unearths the buried rage of a man who has witnessed a tragedy and the tale of a pair of immigrant security guards who travel the city casually observing contemporary America until dramatic events force them to re-evaluate their opposing perspectives.
