'King of the Corner' stirs up the cleverness, but still ambles

Middle-aged market researcher Leo Spivak (Peter Riegert), the protagonist of the modestly entertaining "King of the Corner," is certainly no lion. He lives a vaguely dissatisfied life, with a backstabbing underling at work (Jake Hoffman, son of Dustin); a skittish wife (Isabella Rossellini, looking worn) and slightly rebellious daughter at home; and an elderly father, Sol (Eli Wallach), in an Arizona retirement home. Leo's dather is ailing, his daughter is growing up too fast, his wife is running out of patience, his protege is after his job and his judgement is becoming blurred. Through a twist of fate and the wisdom of a rabbi, Leo charts his way toward middle-age self-redemption and a second chance.
