'Kontroll' takes you on a riveting ride

The new Hungarian film "Kontroll" begins with a statement from a (presumably) real official of the Budapest subway system. The nervous speaker assures us that, while filmmaker Nimrod Antal was allowed to shoot in the city's ancient train tunnels, we should not take his film to depict the system's actual workings. What a relief for Budapest-bound tourists! The metro depicted here is more Underworld than Underground, a fluorescent grime-zone stalked by gangs of barely civilized "kontrollers" who, amazingly, are what passes for law down here.
