'Mysterious Skin' goes for shock value

Neil is a teenage prostitute who picks up older men in the park; his memories of being molested by a Little League coach are wistful, not traumatic. Brian, Neil's old teammate, has no social life and has recently begun to believe he was abducted by aliens during his youth. The two young men don't connect until "Mysterious Skin" is near its end, but it doesn't take much imagination to conclude that they have more in common than an old baseball uniform.
