'Sin City': Unrelenting violence wears you out

"Sin City" is a fully rendered, visually intoxicating transfer from page to screen of three separate stories from comic master Frank Miller's ultra-dark, detective-style graphic novels. But it's also the kind of R-rated eye candy that flirts with hard-core film noir, ultra violence and sheer lust. The horde of young-adult fans — those who rarely venture into the sun and, rarer still, take a break from their PlayStations or Xboxes — will come to see this film in droves. Read the full review

READ THE REVIEW

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: C+
"A movie with one vibe that oversells itself and, eventually, overstays its welcome."

Austin American-Statesman: C-
"As a test-reel to show off Robert Rodriguez's pet technologies, or as a fetish object for comics fans, "Sin City" is praiseworthy. As a stand-alone piece of cinema, it has a few Hail Marys to say."

Dayton Daily News: B+
"... isn't for everyone, but those with a taste for hard-boiled thrills and cutting-edge cinema will want to visit again and again."

The Palm Beach Post: D
"This is surely the most authentic recreation of adult comic books ever translated to film. But so what?"

The Palm Beach Post "Flick Chick"
"... visually stunning, stylishly devastating and well-acted, but eventually sinks under its high-school delight in stark violence, unchecked gore and tired depiction of all women as sexually charged vamps, victims, strippers or hookers."
