White Stripes tear it up
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
More White Stripes concert photos
Say this for the White Stripes: You’d be hard pressed to find another two musicians who can consume the vast concrete expanse in front of the 99X stage.
But that’s what Jack and Meg White did during their headlining set Friday night.
Swallowed it whole.
Oh, and while you’re talking about the blues-rock duo and its first outing since the release of its latest CD, “Get Behind Me Satan,” you might as well add that it wasn’t really a singalong either.
The approximately 90-minute set was more spectacle than anything. Watch Jack work the guitar like a weapon. Then the xylophone. Then the sitar. All while Meg gives it to the drums like the kit had stolen from her.
Then — oh, yeah — during the encore, the familiar seven-note guitar tug of “Seven Nation Army” filled the expanse and most of the crowd finally picked up its air guitars in recognition.

Hey Sonia, stick to reviewing hip-hop. Jack played the vibes and mandolin, not the xylophone and sitar.

I believe Jack White played marimba, not vibes or xylophone.

Pretty sure it was vibes. See Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson. Sorry, wasn’t trying to slam Sonia.

yeh, you’d think a music critic for a major city newspaper would know the difference between a sitar and a mandolin….but then again you don’t have to worry about that in hip hop b/c they don’t play instruments
