JUST SOUTH OF ATLANTA, East Point has seen a renaissance of sorts over the past few years. On the second-story corner of Main Street's strip of historic brick buildings is a welcoming little bar called the East Point Corner Tavern. Open just over three years, the tavern is one of the first bars in downtown East Point in more than a decade.
EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME: With its extensive beer list ($2-$6), wine selection and specialty drink menu ($4-$8), the Corner Tavern became an instant hot spot for locals. According to owner Michael Rabb, locals account for the majority of business, while nearby Delta and Fort McPherson employees stop by, too. There's inventive bar fare with appetizers such as fried artichoke hearts, sandwiches and the Fort Mac, a half-pound bacon cheeseburger. There are weekday lunch specials as well as dinner entrees, including roasted salmon and New York Strip.

CORNER POCKET: The Corner Tavern also offers various activities while eating and drinking. Tuesday nights feature team trivia, with pool league tournaments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Thursdays, it's Texas Hold 'Em, and each Sunday, the tavern also hosts live acoustic music from local musicians like Mike Geier of Kingsized and Heather Luttrell.
The fourth Sunday of each month features drinking bingo, back by popular demand. It's basically regular bingo except winners get a drink of their choice from the bar. T-shirts and other freebies are also given away.
AROUND THE CORNER: Rabb recently opened a second location in Little Five Points, appropriately called Little Five Corner Tavern. The new location occupies the space formerly known as 9 Lives Saloon and offers the same neighborhood bar feel for an intown crowd. The menu features most of the same items with more entrees, sides and salads.
