OVERVIEW: Maybe it was the rectangular shape of the dance floor, with bleacher-style seats on one side. The abundance of jerseys and sneakers could have done it, too. But something about Fuel makes you feel like you're at a celebrity basketball game. There's a balcony VIP area looking over the main "court," an attentive staff and bathroom attendants ready to offer your refreshment of choice (loose cigarettes, candy, gum, lotion, scents, etc.)
PRICE: Everyone gets in free before 11 p.m. on Celebrity Thursdays, one of the most popular nights. After that, it's $10 for ladies and $20 for guys. You'll probably want drinks -- $8 for Cuervo Gold shots, $5 for Heineken -- and unfortunately, you'll have to order a few. They pour by the book here.
TUNES: Any club that plays "Crazy In Love" by Beyoncé gets bonus points. You'll take a trip to R. Kelly's "Chocolate Factory" and Nelly encourages you to "Shake Your Tailfeather." Underground OutKast and a new Missy Elliott project worked their way into the mix as well, all pumped through an awesome sound system. On Saturdays, Emperor Searcy and DJ Doc from Hot 107.9 hold it down with a live broadcast featuring the hits and remixes played on the station.
SCENE: Fuel didn't get packed until after 11 p.m., but it did have a line outside even after midnight. So you'll be partying with people who've got the money to get in. Just don't expect them to be wearing suits or hitting the dance floor until almost 1 a.m. Celebrity Thursdays is strictly for the hip-hop crowd that believes in a low-key but good time.
