SMOOTH GROOVES and crisp clothing thrive at Hairston's in Stone Mountain. This club exemplifies stylish sophistication: Everyone in the door must be 25 and well-dressed (the dress code is strictly enforced). But once you're in, expect good company, fine dining and nostalgia.
PRICE: The cover is $15. On Wednesdays (Ladies' Night), it's free for women all night. Parking is $3 in the spacious lot. Dinner entrees range from $15 to $20. Drinks are $4 to $6.
TUNES: They play all the music that makes people say, "Heeey, that is the jam!" People were moaning every time the DJ dropped a Frankie Beverly, Gap Band or Jackson 5 hit. It was music you could groove to or just sit around and smile about. Don't worry: He brought it full circle and scratched through the '80s with Bell Biv Devoe and Rob Base, and into today with Usher and Lil Jon (but then it was right back down memory lane).
SCENE: On Ladies' Night the place is packed, but it felt like a group of old friends. In fact, for some people it was. There were birthday parties and other special occasions in the mix.
The club keeps the kitchen open all night (perfect for a dinner date), and guests can sit in the secluded dining room, eating gumbo, catfish, chicken or pasta salad, while watching the dance floor on a big screen television. Caution: The wait staff is also taking drink orders on the floor, so dinner may get delayed.
