‘Camp Rock’s’ Demi Lovato a rising Disney star
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Like a carousel of ornate plastic horses, and quicker than the roller coaster on Space Mountain, another Disney sensation on the rise is circling our way.
And no, we’re not talking about those coiffed-just-so Jonas Brothers.

‘Camp Rock’ co-star Demi Lovato, an up-and-coming singer from Texas who turns 16 Wednesday, is not afraid to reach for the high notes à la Christina Aguilera.

Meet Demi Lovato:
• On TV she is … Mitchie Torres, the envy of many an adolescent as she wins Joe Jonas’ heart in the hit Disney Channel movie “Camp Rock.”
• On records she is … An occasionally breathy, mostly rocking singer who’s unafraid to creep up to a Christina Aguilera-like high note or two. Or at least that’s what the 15-year-old Texan sounds like on “Get Back,” the record on her site, demilovato.com. (Surely we’ll get an even better sense of her vocal abilities when she releases her still-untitled, upcoming debut).
• In that video … You know, the one Miley Cyrus posted with her friend Mandy Jiroux — she and fellow Disney up-and-comer Selena Gomez were getting razzed about T-shirt choices (Gomez) and former gap-toothed smiles (Lovato). (Cyrus later apologized, saying she was “super sorry” and the video was just a joke. “We were just, like, having fun. … Elvis says, ‘Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,’ so we were imitating them being funny.”
• In People magazine, she revealed … “Kelly Clarkson is my all-time idol. She is a phenomenal singer.”
• And on stage Wednesday night, she’ll be … Opening for current teen squeal inducers the Jonas Brothers. (And to think, just a year ago they were opening for fellow Disney sensation Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. See a pattern?)
