The Cure ready to treat fans

ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED to perform last September, British goth-pop band the Cure postponed its tour to record a new album. The decision left many fans in need of a fix for their favorite mop-top singer and post-punk ailments.

The band's 13th studio release is slated to come out Sept. 13, but there's a plan in place to leak new music to fans over the next few months. In true goth fashion, the elaborately eccentric Robert Smith and crew are celebrating this unlucky number by releasing singles, complete with B-sides not on the album, on the 13th of each month leading up to the album's release. The first single, "The Only One," was released in May. The second, "Freakshow," comes out this week — on Friday the 13th.

For those with an illness that only some jangly, introspective, mopey, yet musically upbeat songs can alleviate, the band's rescheduled Atlanta show is also this weekend. And as anyone who has ever experienced the Cure live before can tell you, the wait for both the show and the new album is likely to be worth it.
