NIGHTWATCH

Learn moves in kitchen, on dance floor at Lit

Published on: 07/10/2008

You have two left feet, and you're clueless in the kitchen. Good thing Lit Kitchen, a special events venue, offers dancing and cooking lessons on the same night. Chef Carmen Cappello teaches guests how to prepare four to five Spanish-style tapas. Then everyone samples the results. Work off those nibbles with salsa dance lessons, and cool your parch with one free sangria or Dos Equis beer. Additional libations are available at a cash bar. Reserve a spot online or by phone.

THE 411: $35. 6:30 p.m. July 11. Lit Kitchen, 433 Bishop St., Atlanta. 404-249-4300, www.litkitchen.com.

SWEET RELIEF

The next time you're downing a beer by SweetWater Brewing Co., remember there's a heart at the bottom of the bottle. On July 12, the brewery teams with the ClearWater Initiative to raise money to provide clean water to nearly 2,000 people in six conflict-affected villages in northern Uganda. Of course, SweetWater beer will be on tap. A band of refugee drummers from Burundi perform live, and documentary photographer Jake Herle displays a collection of work titled "Uganda." The silent auction touts rarities including Larry King-signed suspenders and movie memorabilia signed by actors Mike Myers and Steve Carrell. Other goodies such as restaurant gift certificates, salsa lessons and Braves tickets are up for grabs, too.

THE 411: $30 online; $40 at the door. 8 p.m. July 12. SweetWater Brewery, 15 Ottley Drive, Atlanta. 404-691-2537, www.clearwaterinitiative.org/Events/Events.html.

IT'S ALL GREEK

Downtown Decatur restaurant Cafe Lily celebrates nine years in business with its Greek Birthday Bash. Diners choose items from the regular menu and a list of Greek specials. Expect dancing, flowing ouzo and flying plates. Chef and owner Anthony Pitillo says he'll raffle off bottles of wine and other prizes. The Greek Birthday Bash is part of a series of monthly events called Lily's Angel Project. These events raise awareness and funds for Hospice Atlanta Center, which cared for Pitillo's late father and Cafe Lily founder Angelo. Proceeds benefit the center.

THE 411: Free. 5:30 p.m. July 15. Cafe Lily, 308 Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur. 404-371-9119, www.cafelily.com.
