NASHVILLE WAITING GAME: We’re still waiting for the debut album, “Picture of Me,” from this South Carolina-born country singer and songwriter. At this point, he’s still probably best known as the guy who wrote Garth Brooks’ comeback single, “More Than a Memory,” which became the first single to debut at the top of the country charts back in 2007. Brice has released three singles of his own — “She Ain’t Right,” “Happy Endings” and “Upper Middle Class White Trash” — but none has set the charts alight, so that debut album has been delayed a couple of times.

The Hackensaw Boys, Chris Knight

TRAVELING MUSIC: Knight has a gritty edge, with his road-tattered tales of love and life gone wrong. Just his song titles are enough to evoke the life of a traveling musician — “Homesick Gypsy,” Miles to Memphis,” “Almost There” — and those are just the ones from his latest album, “Heart of Stone.” There’s nothing watered down about the Hackensaw Boys’ take on Appalachian traditions. This Virginia aggregation’s stuff can get rowdy, and really, that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Tift Merritt, Teddy Thompson

WORTHY HEIR: Thompson, son of British folk-rock royalty Richard and Linda, released the best album of his still-young career this year. “A Piece of What You Need” is Thompson’s fourth release, and it’s as smart and melodically memorable as some of his parents’ work, and that’s very high praise. New York-based group the Grey Race serves as Thompson’s backing band on this current tour. Grammy-nominated, North Carolina-based vocalist Merritt made her major label bow with “Bramble Rose” in 2002. Since then, she’s drifted closer and closer to the mainstream — and toward mainstream success.

Chuck Leavell

THE GREEN STONE: Southern rock stalwart and frequent Rolling Stones touring keyboardist Chuck Leavell has been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. He’s also a conservationist and tree farmer, so this gig is an appropriate one for him. It’s part of a daylong event focusing on developing Woodstock as a green destination. Attendees may bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. No alcohol. Parking at churches across the street.

Musiq Soulchild

SOUL GOOD: Philadelphia-based neo-soul man is part of a welcome trend. Along with fellow Philly act the Roots and a few others, Musiq is creating an organic yet thoroughly modern meld of R&B and hip-hop that’s more concerned with craft than chart action.
