Death Cab For Cutie’s shows have become more animated since the band’s major label debut in 2005.

MORE MUSIC NEWS:

The man who urged us to cut loose with the title song from “Footloose” has a bigger catalog of hits than you might think. He had six Top 10s, including the 1972 Loggins & Messina nugget “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” and nine more Top 40 entries.

• 8 p.m. May 1-2. $55; $35 lawn. Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater, 201 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City. 770-631-0630, www.amphitheater.org.

The Black Kids

The hype that greeted this Jacksonville outfit, one of Rolling Stone’s 10 Artists to Watch for 2008, was overwhelming. Debut album “Partie Traumatic” was bound to disappoint, but it’s a solid album that should appeal to those who love the poppier side of the Cure, or have a yen for the ’80s in general.

• 9 p.m. May 1. $17-$20. The Loft, 1374 W. Peachtree St. N.W. 404-885-1365, www.theloft-atlanta.com.

SATURDAY, MAY 2

Ben Harper and Relentless7

Rock adventurer and multi-instrumentalist Harper and his new band make an Atlanta stop just before the May 5 release of their debut album “White Lies for Dark Times.”

• 8:30 p.m. May 2. $35. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. N.E. 404-521-1786, www.variety-playhouse.com.

SUNDAY, MAY 3

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

New York quartet melds shimmering pop melodies to fuzzy guitars to generate maximum sweet-and-sour indie rock power.

• 8 p.m. May 3. $8-$10. The EARL, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. S.E. 404-522-3950, www.badearl.com.

TUESDAY, MAY 5

The Gaslight Anthem

The Gaslight Anthem is from New Jersey, and that’s significant. Despite the underground, indie-rock grit of the quartet’s music, these guys couldn’t deny their Springsteen fandom if they wanted to. Luckily, they don’t seem to want to.

• 7 p.m. May 5. $13. Masquerade, 695 North Ave. N.E. 404-577-8178, www.masq.com.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 6

Death Cab for Cutie

In the early 2000s, this Seattle quartet’s shows weren’t very dynamic. The lush guitarscapes were gorgeous, but they never seemed to catch fire. Since the band made its major label debut on Atlantic in 2005 with “Plans,” the audiences have grown and the shows have become much more animated.

• 8 p.m. May 6. $30-$35. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. N.E. 404-881-2100, www.foxtheatre.org.
