FRIDAY
Stage: The Atlanta Shakespeare Company presents “The Tempest,” the bard’s tale of a magical island. It continues through Jan. 27 at the New American Shakespeare Tavern
Visual arts: “Georgia Nature Photographers’ Association: The Art of the Landscape” is on view at the Chattahoochee Nature Center through Feb. 15.
Stage: In this bilingual Mexican folktale “Brother Coyote and Sister Fox,” Brother Coyote conspires to eat Doña Conchita’s plump chickens, but Sister Fox is one step ahead. The Thistle Theatre of Seattle production runs through Jan. 27 at the Center for Puppetry Arts.
Visual arts: See work by Cumberland Island jewelry designer Janet “Gogo” Ferguson as the High Museum of Art presents “Gogo: Nature Transformed,” which continues through July 7. Check out the story behind the work.
Performing arts: Georgia Ensemble Theatre presents the premiere of “Swell Party,” a new mystery by Atlanta playwright Topher Payne. It continues through Jan. 27 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. The play is part of a round-up of upcoming productions on Atlanta stages.

Stage: Aurora Theatre presents "Bob," chronicling the mythic adventures of a dreamer born and abandoned in the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant. It runs through Feb. 10. Check out our review of the show.
Stage:“Sojourner” is a biography of Sojourner Truth being presented at 7 Stages Theatre Jan. 23-27.
Stage: Horizon Theatre Company presents an encore run of its successful 2011 show “The Waffle Palace: Smothered, Covered & Scattered 24/7/365.” It runs through Feb. 17.
Performing arts: Many tales will be told at the Kennesaw State University StoryFest, which runs Jan. 24-26 in the university's Stillwell Theater.
Stage: A blind woman is terrorized in the frightening thriller “Wait Until Dark,” which runs through Jan. 27 at New London Theatre in Snellville.
Performing arts: They’ll be spinning yarns and telling tales at the Southern Order of Storytellers’ Storytelling Festival Jan. 25-26 at First Baptist Church Of Decatur.
Stage, music: They'll have just one day to stage an opera as the Atlanta Opera present the 24-Hour Opera Project. It kicks off at 5 p.m. Jan. 25 at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. The showcase of the works begins at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Atlanta Opera Center.
Stage: The Polk Street Players present “Let’s Murder Marsha” Jan. 25-Feb. 9 at St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta.
Stage:“Visiting Mr. Green” opens Jan. 25 and continues through Feb. 17. The play is presented by Stage Door Players at the North Dekalb Cultural Arts Center in Dunwoody.
Stage:“9 to 5” is a musical based on the film starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. It's the latest production from the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone and runs Jan. 25-Feb. 17.
Stage:“The Producers” is the musical based on the great Mel Brooks film comedy and runs Jan. 25-31 at the Fox Theatre.
Recreation: Get your motor running and head out to the Great American Motorcycle Show Great American Motorcycle Show Jan. 25-27 at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Norcross.

SATURDAY
Music, performing arts: Bands from historically black colleges and universities showcase their music and showmanship at the Honda Battle of the Bands, which gets under way at 3 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Georgia Dome.
Music: Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is joined by violinist Vadim Gluzman, who is the soloist for Bruch’s Violin Concerto. The orchestra also performs Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 (“Scottish”). The concert begins at 8 p.m. Jan. 24 and 26 at Atlanta Symphony Hall. Read our preview of this program and next week's series of concerts, both runs featuring important young violinists.
Stage: Company J presents the beloved musical “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Marcus Jewish Community Center in Dunwoody through Feb. 3.
Recreation: Hit the slopes at Snow Mountain, where it’s always a winter wonderland. The annual attraction at Stone Mountain Park continues through Feb. 18.
Beer: Grab a brew or two at the Atlanta Winter Beer Fest, which gets going at 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Masquerade.
Music: Two jazz greats, Chick Corea and Gary Burton, will perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech.
Music:Venice Baroque Orchestra will perform works by Bach, Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi and more at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 26 at Spivey Hall in Morrow.
Music: California-born Gary Allan, one of mainstream country’s most thoughtful craftsmen, plays Wild Bill’s at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 26.
SUNDAY
Music: DeKalb Symphony Orchestra's annual children’s concert includes WSB-TV’s Jovita Moore narrating Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.” It begins at 3 p.m. Jan. 27 at Georgia Perimeter College's Clarkston Campus.
