First Look: Reveille Cafe, Marietta

Reveille Cafe might conjure images of a cozy French restaurant. But beyond omelets, crepes and quiche, the hearty breakfast-centered menu features a medley of Mexican, Cajun and American flavors, plus sandwiches and salads. And, of course, the name comes from the bugle wake-up call that signals it’s time to rise and shine and eat.

The look: The original Reveille opened in Acworth in 2012. The second location opened this month in the Shallowford/Sandy Plains area of Marietta. The bright, sparsely decorated shopping center space offers multiple seating options, including a coffee shop-style bar near the entrance, rows of booths, and tables to accommodate larger parties.

The scene: One recent Friday afternoon, the dining room was scattered with groups of business people out for lunch and couples having a late breakfast. Eager if not always efficient servers swooped around each other, while a friendly manager stopped by several tables to ask what everyone had ordered and if they enjoyed it.

The menu: Under headings like Wake Up Call and The Mess Hall you’ll find the likes of a breakfast parfait with yogurt, granola and fresh berries ($4.99), shrimp and grits with andouille ($10.99), and a breakfast burrito with eggs, chorizo and a side of black beans ($8.79). From the Griddle, there’s the wild-style Mystic Stuffed French Toast with Hawaiian bread, cream cheese filling, corn flake coating, strawberries and bananas ($8.59). The hefty Dyne-o-mite Burger is topped with cheddar, bacon and a fried egg on a pretzel bun ($9.29).

The drinks: The beverage list includes coffee drinks such as cappuccino ($2.79) and cafe mocha ($3.29), chai tea latte ($3.29), fresh-squeezed orange juice ($2.79), and soft drinks and iced tea ($1.99) with free refills.

The extras: Look for healthy choices, such as the South Beach with scrambled eggs and Canadian Bacon ($7.89), Irish oatmeal ($4.99), and and an egg white omelet with turkey and mushrooms ($8.99). The 10-and-under kids menu ($4.99) has the Mini Me, with eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast.
