An Atlanta-based talent booking agency is being sued by a Mexican entertainment company for more than $1 million afterallegedly failing to book R&B artist Rihanna for two performances in Mexico last April.
The entertainment company, Empresa Promotora San-Martinez, which organizes concerts in several Mexican cities, wanted to book Rihanna to perform two concerts in Guadalajara and Mexico City. The lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court on Monday, claims Jesus Joel Martinez Hernan paid New Era Talent Agency $120,000 in February to start negotiations with the artist.
Martinez claims in the suit that the booking agency never contacted Rihanna's representatives and later raised the total cost of producing the concert from $1.2 million to $5.6 million. Now, the Mexican company is asking for the $120,000 that it paid and $1.2 million for breach of contract, damages and fraud.
New Era Talent Agency's parent company is Hitt Afta Hitt Enterprises (HAH Enterprises) and both are owned by Johnnie Cabbell. Cabell did not respond to numerous phone calls and emails seeking comment.
