When a woman dons the veil or tiara, she begins to see herself as a bride.
That’s the observation of Francesca Walker, owner of Bethany Bridal at The Greene in Beavercreek.
“The accessories complete the look,” she says. “You can put on a simple white dress but when you add the veil, the earrings, the necklace, it makes the outfit complete.”
Kriston Kissell, owner of Lillian’s in Washington Twp., says many brides request vintage-style accessories.
“They’re buying headbands, combs, hair brooches that are a little less traditional than the standard tiara,” she adds.
Today’s sparkly headbands are asymmetrical, worn on the side rather than on the crown. Though Swarovsky crystals are all the rage, cubic zirconia look-alikes can give you a similar look and are a lot less expensive.
Rachel Leonard, fashion director of Brides magazine, suggests these fashion accessories:
For the Princess bride: a long train, jeweled headpiece or comb worn on the side, a floral T-strap shoe, a cuff bracelet, jeweled headband or tiara, a long full veil with hair worn up.
For the Offbeat bride: a short veil with open netting, a hair band, a little platform shoe with an open toe, a little glove.
For the Trendy bride: long earrings, especially if she is wearing a narrow gown, a strappy sandal, a cuff bracelet.
“It’s a big trend to wear a bit of color on the shoe such as pink,” Leonard says.
For the Simple bride: a strand of pearls, an heirloom comb, a silk flower in her hair.
For the Elegant bride: an open-toe retro shoe, a jeweled T-strap.
Accessories, says Leonard, allows each bride to express her own individuality.
“In general, what we’re finding is that people have different personalities and everybody wants to look unique and special on their wedding day.”
