Atlanta named one of the best cities in the U.S. for recreation

Home to more than 300 green spaces, the fabulous Fox Theatre, the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere and the beloved National Center for Civil and Human Rights, it’s no surprise that when it comes to recreation, Atlanta has some serious perks.

In fact, the metro recently ranked among the top five best cities in the country in personal finance website WalletHub’s latest list of best and worst cities for recreation.

Analysts at the company examined the 100 most populated U.S. cities and compared them across four key dimensions: entertainment and recreational facilities; costs; quality of parks and weather.

They further evaluated the dimensions using 44 relevant metrics, including number of attractions per capita, music venues, public swimming pools, hiking trails, food festivals and more.

The best U.S. city for recreation, according to WalletHub, was Orlando.

And of the 100 metros included in the ranking, Irving, Texas, was deemed the worst for recreation.

Atlanta ranked fifth on the list and 10th in the entertainment and recreational facilities dimension, 62nd in costs, 24th in quality of parks and 41st in the weather dimension.

The metro was also among the top five in lowest average food price and most tennis courts per capita.

Last year, WalletHub also recognized Atlanta as one of the “most fun” cities in the nation, ranking it the best metro for restaurants and fitness centers per capita.
