The Gwinnett County Fair will open as scheduled Thursday despite Tropical Storm Irma downing trees and shutting off power across metro Atlanta.

The fairgrounds did not experience any significant damage, said Dale Thurman, the fair’s manager. The carnival rides are at the fairgrounds and are being set up.

One food vendor is currently in Florida, which also sustained damage while Irma was a hurricane, but that vendor expects to arrive at the fair before it opens Thursday evening.

The fair opens its gates at 5 p.m. Thursday at 2405 Sugarloaf Pkwy. in Lawrenceville, and advance tickets are on sale at Walgreens locations in the county.
