It remains to be seen how the new stadium’s neighboring mixed-use property will do financially while its parents are away for the winter, but the first postseason event will be held Saturday.
It’ll be a volleyball event to raise money for Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, which has an office in Smyrna.
“Bump, Set, Spiked” will be held on two courts on the turf outside the Chop House Gate from noon to 5 p.m., said spokeswoman Cassie Cope. Doors open an hour before.
It’s $200 to register a team of between six and 10 players; individual registration is $20. You get bottled water, parking validation and a team shirt.
The Yacht Rock Schooner band (think Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, captain hats, stemmed glasses of bubbly wine) will be playing some tunes.
Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash. Todd English Tavern will set up a “Bark Bar” with dog-friendly “beer” — which apparently is a thing.
There will be spots for pet adoption along with a dunk tank.
Cope said the band will have areas set up to donate to Hurricane Irma relief efforts near the stage, and King of Pops will donate $1 of every popsicle sold toward recovery efforts. Neither specified where the money would go.
Longtime Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone will also be at the event to meeting and greeting visitors.
