Running with the police is not something citizens often have the chance to do.
But in a couple months, it will be.
The Atlanta’s Finest 5K invites runners and law enforcers to breeze past downtown landmarks such as Centennial Olympic Park and the World of Coca-Cola. Squad cars, motorcycles and the Mobile Command Unit will also be onsite to explore.
Awards will be given out in male and female categories for winning runners and APD officers. Age group awards will also given for the top three men and women in each age five-year age group, along with awards for ages 14 and under.
The 5K is open for anyone eight and older. There’s also a one mile race for ages seven and up, and 50 meter dash for children six and under.
Organized by the Atlanta Track Club, proceeds from the race benefit Crime Stoppers Atlanta, an Atlanta Police Foundation program that provides rewards for anonymous tips that help solve crimes. Tickets range from $10 to $35; prices increase July 31 and Aug. 16.
The address for the race start is 121 Baker Street Northwest. (See the course map.) Parking is available in the World of Coca-Cola parking garage for $7 per car, or it’s about a 10 minute walk from the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center or Peachtree Center MARTA stops.
